About department of health education
The Department of health education was established in Ethiopia in 2004 with 41 undergraduate Students at Jimma University. Following that the Master’s program in health Education and promotion training program was started with 5 trainees of all males in 2005.
In our University Health Education and Behavioral Sciences department was established as Unit within the Institute of Public Health college of Medicine and Health Sciences by 2012 with four staffs. The unit was established because the College recognizes that conducting health education and promoting behavioral change interventions are effective strategies to improving the health and wellbeing of the community and the nation at large. The unit was upgraded as a department by opening postgraduate program on Master of Public Health in health promotion and communication specialty with 5 students. Activities of the department focus on disease prevention, rehabilitation services, running, monitoring and evaluating health promotion programs, and promoting community health through health communication and behavior-oriented health researches and interventions. Currently it is one of the newly emerging departments running under the institute of Public Health, college of Medicine and health sciences, University of Gondar.
